Definite progress was made in the early hours of this morning - 4am, to be exact. I had decided at some point last night to bring Maya into my bed. We will be co-sleeping at home, so I thought we might just give it a try here. She fussed sometime around midnight or so...so I plopped her next to me in this enormous (but hard as a ROCK!) bed of mine and off we went to slumberland. Well...around 4am...my darling girl woke up (I guess I was already awake) and gave me the BIGGEST smile ever! She looked straight at me and just smiled! Oh..did my heart melt! We then had about a 20 minute play-fest of "Where's Maya" with her turning away from me and then back to me and threw in some tickling for good measure!
And that was it. We cuddled up together for a few moments..she put herself back to sleep..and I've been awake ever since!
Oh my goodness....nobody could have explained to me how AWESOME this is!
We'll be moving on to the city of Luoyang later today (2ish)....I will try to take more pictures today and will post later tonight after we're settled into our new hotel room.
Thank you all SO much for your comments..and your prayers..and good wishes. It is such a blessing to be able to share this with all of you...and frankly, the blogging has become addicitve and has kept me sane when I'm awake in the middle of the night!
And now, for a different kind of countdown....
We'll be home in just 10 days - China time! YAY!

Michelle,
I am so glad that you know the FEELING of motherhood. The smiles of pure joy and innocence are the best. Since she loves her fingers so much has she tried a binkie...Have safe travels today and I cannot wait for pictures later. Talk about being obsessed I keep my laptop open all day to see when there are new updates.

It is so great to read about how you are bonding. I race home from work to see if you have an update. Thanks for sharing you are making the wait just that more barable.
Sounds like Maya is falling in love with you too! :) It only gets better!!!
Anxiously waiting for more photos of that sweet face and maybe even a smile!
Love, Robin

WE are reading and I am crying daily! I am so happy for you. What great moments of intimacy.
I can hardly wait to meet her. The boys are also very excited.
Love to both of you.

Michelle and Maya,
Isn't that the most wonderful feeling in the world, that feeling of unconditional love -- gives us just a glimpse of eternity and God's love. Thanks for sharing your journey with Maya.
Blessings on you both,
Mary Regan

Hello from the same side of the world. I am waiting for the Advil PM to take affect here in HK! Travel went well! We had some peeps from our TG on the last leg and now they are in the room next door!
Glad to hear that you and Maya are really warming up to each other!!
Those moments when she is just looking at you and smiling will stay with you always. There is really no way to describe to others what that feeling is. You just have to experience yourself. And I am so glad that you are experiencing those times with Maya. I knew you two would instantly fall in love.
Love,
Emily
Michelle,
This is so cool! Your right, no one can explain to you the wonderful feeling of being a mom and now your getting to experience first hand. Love you stories and the emotions you put into them. Feels like we are right there with you. Maya is so lucky to have you as a mom! May God Bless you both. Have a safe trip back home. Can't wait to see you both! Veronica
